Bluestreak Willow is a male clone of Salix acutifolia, prized for its distinctive purple-violet shoots covered in vivid white chalky bloom - a standout feature in basketry, floral arrangements and landscapes. The bloom can rub off easily, but it naturally regrows over time again. The older bark develops attractive, snake-like markings. Native to Russia and East Asia, this semi-weeping willow develops long, narrow bright green leaves and produces abundant silvery catkins before spring leaf-out.
The flexible stems make it suitable for basket weaving, while coppicing encourages dense, colourful growth. Left unpruned, it grows into an elegant form with graceful branching.
Growers Note:
Space plants 30 cm (12") apart with 60 cm (24") between rows for coppicing. Mulch and suppress weeds for optimal establishment.
