Dwarf Raspberry, also known as Arctic Raspberry, is an exceptionally hardy native perennial with small, bright red edible berries. The berries resemble raspberries, but are smaller and more delicate, with a pleasantly sweet, slightly tart flavour. They can be enjoyed fresh or used in jams, jellies, sauces, and other preserves.
Delicate pink flowers appear among the low-growing stems, adding to its charm in summer. Dwarf Raspberry prefers cool, moist and partly shaded conditions and naturally grows in damp woodlands, forest edges, wetlands, meadows, and along streams. It is native across much of Canada, including Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Québec, and the northern territories. Its remarkable hardiness makes it an especially interesting choice for cold-climate gardens.
Its low, spreading habit makes it well suited to naturalized plantings, food forests, and shaded orchard areas. The flowers attract pollinating insects, while the berries provide food for birds and small mammals. Its low-growing habit also provides useful ground level cover for wildlife.
